Honda uses the APS (Automatic Parts Supply) application for the management of the dealer stock. The system uses the current stock and previous demand for a part to calculate the amount to be ordered for each part. The order proposal is transmitted to the dealer who then has the option to review and adapt the quantity.

Mr. Geens was involved in the implementation of new features, including:

  • Buyback: once a year, each dealer has the option to sell superfluous stock back to Honda. Mr. Geens implemented the calculation of the quantities to be returned and the procedure to register this order.
  • Seasonal products: originally, APS was designed for car parts. These have a fairly constant demand throughout the year. Mr. Geens implemented some new algorithms to deal with parts that have a varying demand throughout the year (e.g., motorcycles and power equipment).
